Dhanbad Residents Struggle with Persistent Low Voltage Crisis Amid Poor Response from Electricity Department
Dhanbad, Jharkhand: Thousands of residents across Dhanbad continue to face severe inconvenience due to persistent low-voltage problems and an unreliable electricity supply. The issue, which has affected households and businesses for months, has become a major concern as temperatures rise and electricity demand increases.
Residents from several localities report that electrical appliances such as fans, coolers, refrigerators, water pumps, and air conditioners are either functioning poorly or not operating at all because of inadequate voltage levels. In many areas, voltage fluctuations have also raised concerns about potential damage to expensive household appliances.
What has further aggravated public frustration is the alleged lack of responsiveness from the electricity department. Consumers claim that despite repeated complaints to the Junior Engineer (JE), electricity board staff, and maintenance personnel, little action has been taken to resolve the issue.
Many residents say that their phone calls often go unanswered. According to consumers, officials sometimes avoid picking up calls altogether, leaving people without any information about when normal power conditions will be restored. As a result, citizens are forced to endure long periods of inconvenience without any clear communication from the authorities.
Local business owners are also feeling the impact. Small shops, service providers, and commercial establishments dependent on electrical equipment have reported operational difficulties due to unstable voltage. The problem has affected productivity and increased maintenance costs for equipment damaged by fluctuations.
Residents are now demanding immediate intervention from the concerned authorities. They are urging the electricity department to conduct proper inspections, upgrade aging infrastructure where necessary, and establish a more effective grievance redressal system. Citizens believe that prompt responses to complaints and transparent communication would significantly improve public trust.
Dhanbad, often recognized as the Coal Capital of India and an important industrial district, requires a reliable electricity network to support both residential and commercial activities. However, the ongoing low-voltage crisis highlights the urgent need for stronger infrastructure management and better consumer service.
Until meaningful action is taken, residents fear that the situation will continue to disrupt daily life and place unnecessary burdens on families and businesses across the city.
